although they formed in oakland, ca, in 2002, the saviours are a deliberate throwback to an earlier time and place, specifically great britain in the late 70s and early 80s. deeply inspired by the new wave of british heavy metal as well as first generation thrashers like slayer and early metallica, the saviours formed out of the ashes of a minor east bay thrash and screamo band named after the excellently monikered actor yaphet kotto...

the duo from uruguay monoblock are back with another deadly combination of tracks. finally the time has come to release (on vinyl only) the bootleg entitled >in-tensiones<. a complex remix using several horn parts and held together by a labyrinth of percussion. the result is a monster of a groove backed by samples from one of jazzs all time greats.

released in 1980 this italo gem has more recently become a huge collectors item worldwide due to its incredibly hard to find status (ú100 ebay / discogs). this album was the prototype for the whole italo sound, with the majority of it written in 1979, but was only a minor hit in its time and not much is now known about the band. the album spawned two singles gipsy and back to heaven but is full of off kilter disco classics such as mister luck and down to the disco. dusted down and remastered this album has really stood the test of time and given a fresh lease of life its bound to find a whole host of new fans worldwide.

following up the intrusion & paul st. hilaire project comes a new release from the intrusion imprint which offers a killa selection of steppas riddims and tropical grooves. intrusions >velocity in a minor< is all about being playful with a sequence, splicing a riddim, stimulating the mind while shuffling your feet. this concludes with the mysterious lo-fi soundsystem up next who make their first 12 inch appearance on intrusion (previously recording under a variety of names strictly on 45) their powerful >de lions den< has been given a second lease on life from its scarce 45 release, (which was only available at a few small record shops in jamaica) this island groove is filled with the dankiest skanks, a melodica on acid and a bassline deeper than the ocean. this mystical midnight groove is given a rework in a 4/4 rhythm and effects from deep space, behind the controls is intrusion front man stephen hitchell who leaves us with a tasty embellishment in fat riddims and icey cold electronics. the b side opens with mildious >de natura rerum< which crosses into territory comparable to intrusions >tswana dub< or the atmospheric dub side of rhythm & sound, a powerful mind melter which does all the rights things in all the right time. the closing >oceanview< paints a picture of just that, leaving you to wander off into the ocean breeze while sinking into its smoky green vapour haze.

ltd backstock !!! label chief and king of nyc late night mythology, francois k returns with a bit of his patented deep space madness. starting with a tempo reminiscent of a 45 played at 33 1/3, a delicate plucked bell-synth bathed in a medium hall reverb leaves ethereal impressions and late night energy. as the melody drops a minor third, another enchanting counter melody joins the mix and adds a rather divine legato styling. after the lead fades out, a percussive interlude full of syncopated noise hits develops: leaving room for a break that reintroduces the main vibe and instills a sense of resolution. the flip carries a remix from quiet village, who has been starting deep space nights with positively solid performances. taking a more club-hyped approach, this rework pounds forward with a massive rumbling kick drum and an underlying noise wash. the main lead gets some serious filter and delay treatment making for a more progressive drive and a versatile dancefloor hook. tweaking things a bit at the break, the melody morphs into a sort of latin-minded groove with portamento glides, edited accents and sharper hits. still keeping the passion and charm alive, the new demise accents francoiss tasteful tune while boasting contemporary excitement

part 1 of the new double-release from tiefschwarz aims at the heart of house music: soul. “on&on” is a first-class arranged club track. starting off with a wonderful mellow theme, that is adumbrated by the bass line in an one-and-a-half minute long exposition. the track ups the tempo with an additional hi-hat resolving into a shuffle beat. in double time, we move on towards the first break. here an edgy, minor key-chord sequence is introduced, making it obvious for everyone, that this track is gonna take off. eventually the keys function as a counterpoint to the classic bass line. a four-to-the-floor “on&on” vocal sample takes over after the break, adding another percussive aspect. as the track goes on a mulitiplicity of side elements sets in - no room for tediousness! in the end the “on&on” vocals resolve into “it’s so simple… . who knows, but this could be a broad hint to all the tech-house academics out there. no matter what, this grande finale raises a smile from every last sweaty soul on the dancefloor. with “best inn” on the b-side tiefschwarz create a dance classic, dressed in 2009 fashion. reminiscent of long gone nu-groove times, a traditional house beat - including a tiny off-beat tinker bell - blasts out of the speakers. a slured synth-organ provides the track with that certain edgyness. here, the brothers keep it laid-back yet exciting at the same time. this piece goes on and on and on - and you yourself run alongside, not wanting to pause. but watch out! at the latest in the second break, tiefschwarz put nostalgia to the test via some shockingly muffled metal drums. one of these moments, where you wish yourself back into the middle of an eight-hour deep-house set in 1992. the train departs. one thrillingly beautiful landscape after another runs by, until the warm sun strokes of the south suddenly rouse you out of slumber. arrived
